1929 Diploma Finds its Way Home

Recently Barbara Byrne Evans ’63 found something special in the home attic of her late mother, Norma Ann Schafer. It was her mother’s St. Mary’s Dominican High School diploma, dated June 8, 1929.  Still in pristine condition, Evans knew the best home for the diploma was back at Dominican. Barbara brought the diploma to the school where she presented it to Alumnae Director Celeste Anding.

Three generations have attended Dominican. Schafer’s granddaughters Shannon C. Brasseaux is a 1989 graduate and Maureen D. Dufour graduated in 1992. Where tradition and legacy are very important, School President Dr. Cynthia Thomas said the 85-year-old diploma will remain as part of Dominican’s archives as a symbol of both.
