At the Mark Wood Electrify Your Strings (EYS!) Workshop and Concert in Baton Rouge, St. Mary’s Dominican High School classical string players experienced a high energy music workshop, capped by a concert infused with a voltage dose of rock and contemporary American music.
Wood is the original violinist with the Transiberian Orchestra and an international recording artist, electric violinist and music education advocate whose EYS! music program reaches an average of 60 schools a year. Workshop participants learn how to relate to the music beyond the notes on the page, performance techniques, how to connect with the audience and how to access their own creative potential. Besides the typical 4-string violin, Wood has created the 7-string and 9-string violins. The 9-string violin has the lowest note on the string bass to the highest note on the violin.
