Pinwheels for Prevention

St. Mary’s Dominican High School students joined students from St. Rita Catholic School and Lafayette Academy to make pinwheels before a news conference in observance of Child Abuse Prevention Month.

During April, blue pinwheels will be planted on the lawn of Archbishop Gregory Aymond’s residence and throughout the nation to raise awareness about the role everyone has in the healthy development of children.

The Archdiocese of New Orleans, the New Orleans Children’s Advocacy Center, and the Jefferson Children’s Advocacy Center partnered to plant 2,005 pinwheels. The 2005 pinwheels represents the number of children and families served through the Audrey Hepburn Care Center and the New Orleans Child Advocacy Center last year.

The Pinwheels for Prevention campaign is a national movement which utilizes the pinwheel as a symbol for child abuse and neglect prevention.
