The annual food drive at St. Mary’s Dominican High School collected 21,034 cans of food, surpassing Dominican’s goal. Collected by students, faculty, staff and alumnae during the seven-day drive, the canned food collection weighed 16,626 pounds. The average meal is 1.2 pounds. Dominican’s donation equates to 13,855 meals.
For 15 years Dominican has done an annual food drive, the largest school food drive in the Greater New Orleans area. It supports the Second Harvest Food Bank during the summer months when Second Harvest historically experiences a decrease in food donations. Over the past four years, the school has collected 67,017 pounds of food.
