St. Mary’s Dominican High School’s annual Thanksgiving Basket Drive collected donations from students, alumnae and athletic teams for 81 Thanksgiving baskets that were distributed in conjunction with St. Rita Parish and Xavier University to provide Thanksgiving meals for families in the Gert Town community, Dominican’s neighbors.
Dominican alumnae, spanning several class years, came together to support the school’s annual food collection. Starting with the November 3 Cocktails on the Courtyard event at Dominican, alumnae brought canned food donations. In keeping with their Thanksgiving tradition, the Class of 1987 members collected donations toward 25 $20 Walmart gift cards. Dominican’s Christian Leadership Council organized the baskets and assisted with pick-up and delivery.
Turkeys were provided by St. Rita Catholic Church in New Orleans and Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mandeville. Thanksgiving basket distribution was at Xavier University Community Outreach Center.
