St. Michael Special School Students Visit Dominican

Students from St. Michael Special School received a warm welcome from Dominican’s Cafeteria staff during the students’ recent visit to polish numerous silver trays in preparation for Open House next month. Dominican’s Food Service Director Gina Melita thanked Lisa Mansfield, Exploration Academy Faculty member at St. Michael’s, “For the great days we’ve been having with our St. Michael’s helpers! Today was especially sweet. The trays look amazing!”

Throughout the year, the students will be returning to Dominican to assist with individually bagging chocolate chip cookies and tidying the cafeteria after locker break. St. Michael Special School was established in 1965 by Sr. Lillian McCormack of the Sisters of Notre Dame with the Archdiocese of New Orleans to serve children and young adults who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Sacred Mission of St. Michael Special School is to provide a Catholic environment where students with intellectual and developmental disabilities are able to grow in faith and reach their full potential – academically, socially, and physically. Since 1965, the school has educated more than 6,500 students and minister to their families.
