St. Mary's Dominican High School Veritas Shield

Student Profile

Julianne Sanchez

Class of 2026

Dominican, whether you're talking about the community, prayer, service, or even academics, has a special aspect that can make bright-eyed middle-schoolers eager to come and be a part of it all (including me). Not only does Dominican push every single one of us to be more academically inclined, but it also pushes you to step out of your comfort zone with the support of your peers and teachers. Along with a strong sense of community comes close friendships. Seeing everyone forming sisterly bonds that would last a lifetime is what truly made me choose Dominican.

Stella Zippert

Soccer

I chose Dominican because of the excellent academics and athletics. Dominican has become my second home, and I really do think Dominican is the place for me. It has made me a better student, soccer player, and all around just a better person.

Ardenne Kijko

Robotics

Dominican's community is full of people that want to help you grow and learn. When someone is confused about something there is never any hesitation to help that person out because everyone wants each other to succeed.

Aubrie Duplantis

Debs Dance Team

Dominican offers a valuable education that will help later in life. We also participate in many fun activities such as Rally Day, Bleacher Swap, Carol Off, and grade-level Retreats. At Dominican, you will make friends that turn into family. Overall, Dominican is an incredible school where you can build strong bonds and lasting connections.

Treneesha “Tina” Gray

Student Council

Dominican has so much to offer. Students can join so many different clubs as well as welcoming sports teams that will always have your back. Teachers, staff, and coaches are always present to give a helping hand as part of one DHS family.

Avery Johnston

Speech and Debate Team

Starting high school is definitely one of the most terrifying and anxious experiences, but DHS makes the transition smooth and effortless. All of the risks are 100% worth the rewards. You'll meet tons of new friends before school even starts, and you'll quickly get used to the academic side of things.

Camille and Therese Hymel

Academic Games

I chose Dominican because this school's core values, which are prayer, study, community, and service, are all significant parts of my life. From learning about the world around me, to learning about my faith, to spending time with my friends, to getting involved in community service, Dominican engages me in all aspects of life that mean the most to me. - Camille

Study means the most to me because learning about the world around me and excelling in academics is one of the best things Dominican offers. Studying and learning are two ways that we all grow and develop at Dominican. Dominican's classes and other education opportunities are inclusive of everything I need to learn, and everyone has the opportunity to excel in academics. Thanks to Dominican, I always study with passion for every subject. - Therese

Leah Gilmore

Choir

I have always admired that Dominican stands for truth and places importance on traditions. When I first stepped foot on campus, I immediately felt a sense of belonging. The beautiful facilities and incredible programs inspired me, and I could not wait to be a part of it.

Dominican is a school that one can be proud to call home. It has a rich history, an excellent reputation, and a beautiful campus. Learning at Dominican is both fun and rewarding.

Sarah Reinhardt

Student Council

This school has offered opportunities and opened doors that I never knew existed. Dominican has allowed me to branch out and find interests that fit me while making friends and figuring out who I really want to be. I could not be happier with the community, which has shaped me into the person I am today.

Mary Baudouin

Mary Baudouin ’74

Provincial Assistant, Jesuits of the US Central and Southern Province

At Dominican High I learned that it was OK to be a strong woman, not afraid to express thoughts, ideas, and opinions. That has been so important in my social justice work which demands that I be an advocate for justice with and for marginalized people even when – and especially when –  there are so many dissenting voices trying to drown out the voices of those crying out for equity and belonging.

Arthel Neville

Arthel Neville ’80

National News Anchor

There are no short cuts. Do the work. Put in the time. Be a team player. Be a leader, but also a team builder. Keep the Dominican ‘girl’ in your heart and try not to stop having fun in the process!

Alison Cernich

Alison Nenos Cernich ’93

Deputy Director

Be present in the present. It is so easy to look ahead and be consumed with what is next. While you can plan and prepare, high school is such an amazing time in your life, so be there for it. Be a part of the things you are passionate about, discover what you enjoy learning, and make time for fun. Know that things can always change. I have had so many different twists and turns throughout my career, many of which I could have never planned for or anticipated. It’s okay to go in a different direction or try something new.”

Lorraine Melito Hess ’86

Catholic Composer, Recording Artist, and Music Minister

The faith formation at Dominican was one of the most influential aspects in my ministry as a Catholic artist, composer, and music director. In grammar school, I learned my prayers; but, at Dominican, I learned to pray. Celebrations of the Mass were some of my greatest memories. Dominican was a safe place to be proudly Catholic, and there was comfort with living the truth of the Gospel among hundreds of young women.

Samantha Lee

Samantha Lee ’09

Entrepreneur

When I started at Dominican, I only knew two people from my grammar school. Even though it was difficult in the beginning, the countless opportunities to join extracurriculars and activities allowed me to meet people and make life-long friends. So, my advice to you would be to get involved and truly experience Dominican.

Ashley Anglin

Ashley Ernestine Anglin ’01

Psychotherapist/Director of Clinical Services

My Dominican education has instilled in me a spirit of excellence and motivation to strive as far as I can within my field. It has allowed me to do many things in my career where both faith and service intersect. Because of Dominican, I have been able to walk boldly in the face of adversity and know that I can do anything I put my mind to.

Jennifer Gniady

Jennifer Gniady ’90

Attorney

A Dominican graduate values life-long learning and pursues excellence, not only as an end but to serve our community. I have been honored to coordinate the Washington D.C. chapter where I am able to see our graduates always learning and striving for excellence for their community and country. It is a blessing to be able to meet current Dominican students when they travel to Washington D.C. for Close-Up and March for Life. The Dominican community stays steadfast and strong in their ways as we continue to support each other.

Shaysa Lewis ’13

Human Resources Manager

I was very involved in extracurricular activities at Dominican and held officer positions as well. Having that experience early in life has definitely helped me in my career now. As an HR Manager, I am in a position to provide a great onboarding process for any new hires coming to our company, and I also oversee all training programs. Having my leadership roles at Dominican has given me a head start to my career now.

Cherish each day at Dominican, for those few short years will continue to impact your entire future! The motto, Veritas, has been my guiding star, reinforced by the curriculum and lessons of love from fabulous faculty.

For more than 160 years, St. Mary’s Dominican High School has been an outstanding educational institution for young women in New Orleans, but it is also so much more.

Dominican is a place for strong leaders, dedicated servers and curious learners. Dominican students develop not only academically, but also spiritually and socially.
