St. Mary’s Dominican High School Band and Choir members represented Louisiana in a commemorative performance November 23 on the USS Missouri in Hawaii. The September 2, 1945 Japanese surrender ceremonies on the deck of the USS Missouri, signaled the end to World War II.

The group’s performance, by invitation, featured “Thanks for the Memories” and other songs from Bob Hope’s USO Shows, a medley from the musical South Pacific, Salute to Armed Forces, and a New Orleans mix of “Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans” and “When the Saints Go Marching In.” An American flag that was raised and lowered from the ship’s bow on the day of their performance was presented to the group. The flag is displayed in Dominican’s music room.
