Softball Team Scores A Place in History

At the Division I state semifinal game held in Sulphur this past weekend, fourth-seeded Dominican toppled defending state champion Mount Carmel 2-1. Dominican’s two-run home run in the 6th-inning marked a historic upset, “one of the greatest upsets in the 46-year history of the LHSAA softball tournament,” wrote Pat Mashburn for Times-Picayune/nola.com.

After the win, Dominican took on second-seeded John Curtis in the championship game. The team fought hard to hold on to a 4-run lead, but fell with a 7-5 loss. However, they brought home the Softball State Runner Up title and memories for the history books and a lifetime.

Congratulations to the team, head coach Dawn Benoit, assistant coaches Jody Savoie and Chris Hernandez, and trainer Emily Jaeger.
