Catholic Sisters Week a Community Celebration

Celebrating Catholic Sisters Week March 8-14 and its theme of Communities of Spirit, Hearts for Ministry, several sisters in our New Orleans community gathered March 9th at the home of Alumnae Director Celeste Shelsey Anding (’82) for a delicious supper provided by Dominican Alumnae board members and friends. The gathering included Dominican Sisters of Peace Sr. Dominic Savio, Sr. Angeline Magro, Sr. Pat Thomas , Sr Mary Ann Culotta, Sr. Ceal Warner, Sr. Suzanne Brauer, and Sr. Pam Weathersby, MSC and Sr. Mary Austin Babin, MSC.

Catholic Sisters Week began in 2015 as a part of National Women’s History Month. It is now an official component of Women’s History Month. It was authorized by Molly Murphy MacGregor, co-founder of National Women’s History Project, who was educated and deeply influenced by Catholic sisters. In 1981, Women’s History Month launched as a single week. By 1987, U.S. Congress formally expanded it to the full month of March.
