Dominican Senior Emma Nguyen Awarded National Merit® Chevron Scholarship

St. Mary’s Dominican High School senior Emma Nguyen is recipient of a National Merit® Chevron Scholarship, among the first group of winners announced today in the 70th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Si Nguyen of Harvey and is a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. Approximately 830 distinguished high school seniors have won corporatesponsored National Merit Scholarship awards financed by about 125 corporations, company foundations, and other business organizations. Also included in this category are awards supported by several foundations and Individual donors who have established endowments with NCSC.

The Alpha Honor Roll student from 2020 to present is a member of Dominican’s Biotechnology Club, Spanish Club, Las Adelitas Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society (Co-Historian), National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, and Science National Honor Society. Honors include College Board AP Scholar with Distinction, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Medalist, National Spanish Exam Silver Medals, Ray Dass Merit Program, Louisiana State University Rally Awards in Biology I (Bronze) and Biology II (Silver Medal), and Southeastern Louisiana University District Literary Rally Gold Medals in Biology I, Algebra I, and Biology II.

A member of the International Fraternity of Student Musicians, she received Musicianship Awards from the Emily Lapouble Piano Studio (2017, 2019, 2023, 2024). Community and volunteer service include St. Rosalie Elementary School’s Catholic Youth Organization, Immaculate Conception School summer camp counselor, and Dominican’s summer camp counselor for three years.
