Dominican Academic Honor Day Celebrates Class of 2025

St. Mary’s Dominican High School Academic Honor Day saluted seniors for their achievements and service. Student awards recognition included Honor Societies – National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, National English Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, French Honor Society, Latin Honor Society, Tri M, and National Art Honor Society; District and State Rallies, Louisiana Music Educators Association, and Athletics.

Maggy LeBlanc received the Knights of Columbus Patriotic Award, presented by Philip Oliver from the local Knights of Columbus. The award recognizes the senior who has displayed the principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism and in doing so has shown the highest degree of citizenship by helping others, especially those who are less fortunate.

Kaitlin Vlosich received the St. Mary’s Dominican College Corporation Scholarship, presented by Sr. Angeline Magro, O.P., a representative of the scholarship committee. The scholarship is in memory and honor of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary who established, maintained, and supported St. Mary’s Dominican College and St. Mary’s Dominican High School.

The Class of 2025 completed 26,603 service hours. Twelve students earned the St. Mary’s Dominican Service Award by performing more than 300 hours. Honorees and their total hours were (from right) Mariya Khan (308), Sophie Spera (330); Rachel Zamjahn (350); A’Jah Canselo (355), Ashley Montoya (365), Mary Lee (401), Aubry Jackson (403), Victoria Wiebelt (410), Emma Nguyen (414), Bailey Bush (465), Cassidy Pierre (517), and Zyllah Wooten (630).

The 2024-2025 Student Council Executive Board

President Ava Ranson, Vice President Julianne Bellow, Secretary Ella Pitisci, and Treasurer Gabriella Brent received E-Board medals in recognition of their outstanding leadership and service to the school.

State Literary Rally (Division II)

Emma Nguyen – first place, Calculus; Ashley Montoya – second place, Spanish IV

Council for the Development of French in Louisiana (CODOFIL) Award, with a $500 prize, was awarded to Karis Brooks for demonstrating a steadfast commitment to the French language in both personal and academic life.

The Joseph Adams Senior Scholarship, Spanish Honor Society of the American Association of Teachers and Spanish and Portuguese recognized Gabriela Munoz for her exceptional academic performance and commitment to the Spanish Honor Society, Chapter Las Adelitas with a $2,000 scholarship that will be applied directly to the university she will attend.

Dominicanite Award: Vida Alvarado who participated in the most athletic teams throughout her school career

Scholastic Award: Rachel Zamjahn who participated in at least two sports each year and has the highest cumulative GPA

St. Sebastian Award: Ava Ranson as outstanding senior in athletics, leadership, and academic excellence

Lolita Fernandez de la Reguera Pittman Award: Lauren Pipitone, presented to the overall varsity athlete who exhibits great athletic ability, strong character, a leader by example through her passion, encouragement, and true love of the game.

Catholic Student of the Year, sponsored by the Archdiocese of New Orleans: Kaitlin Vlosich, who represented Dominican as the senior in the program, was voted by Dominican’s faculty, counselors, and administrators.

The Dominican Alumnae Association inducted the Class of 2025 into the association and presented each senior with  a special rosary representing the Dominican tradition. Academic Honor Day closed with A Salute to Seniors presentation that cognized members of the Class of 2025 and their college choices.
