Academic Honor Day Celebrates the Class of 2026

At our recent Academic Honors Day Program, we celebrated the accomplishments of the Class of 2026 of St. Mary’s Dominican High School.

Dominican Student of the Year

The Catholic School Student of the Year award is sponsored by the Archdiocese of New Orleans and awards those students who demonstrate excellence in discipleship, leadership, service, citizenship, and academic achievement. This award is voted on by Dominican’s faculty, counselors, and administration. Congratulations to Anastasia Redmann, for representing Dominican as the senior in the Catholic Student of the year program. 

Knights of Columbus Award

The Knights of Columbus Patriotic Award is presented to the senior who has displayed the principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism and in doing so has shown the highest degree of citizenship by helping others, especially those less fortunate. This year’s recipient of the Knights of Columbus Patriotic Award is Olivia Hernandez.

The St. Mary’s Dominican College Corporation Scholarship

In memory of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary (now known as the Dominican Sisters of Peace) who established, maintained, and supported both St. Mary’s Dominican College and St. Mary’s Dominican High School, we are pleased to continue their tradition of educating and enhancing the lives of young women of New Orleans by presenting this scholarship in their honor to: Anastasia Maria Redmann.

Service Hour Awards

Service is one of the four pillars of Dominican life and collectively during their years at Dominican, the Class of 2026 completed 24,605 hours of service. 10 students earned the St. Mary’s Dominican Service Award by performing more than 400 hours.

Dominican High School is proud to recognize the outstanding leadership and service that the 2025-2026 E-Board has provided to our school. Spanish Awards:

The Joseph Adams Senior Scholarship, Spanish Honor Society of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP), awarded one senior with a $2,000 scholarship that will be applied directly to her future university. This scholarship recognizes her exceptional academic performance and commitment to the Spanish Honor Society, Chapter Las Adelitas. This award is hereby awarded to: Isabella Rojas.

Each year students take the Spanish National Exam in their respective Spanish level Courses. This year three seniors received the designation of Silver which is awarded to students who achieve a score in the 85th through 94th percentile nationwide. In Spanish IV AP, Mia Rodriguez and Isabella Rojas. In Spanish II, Anastasia Redmann.

Each year the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese hosts a LA Chapter Poster Contest. The following senior placed 3rd place and received an award for her artwork: Brianna Teran

Art and Music Awards

Every year, The Council for Art Education (CFAE) hosts a showcase of student artwork from around the country at the National Art Education Association’s annual conference. The showcase features winning student designs from the annual Youth Art Month (YAM) state flag contest and nine students’ works were exhibited representing the state of Louisiana and celebrating K-12 talent and creativity. This year, senior Olivia Pierce’s work, Colorful Pelican, was chosen and displayed.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. The Alliance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. I am proud to announce that three Seniors have received awards in this year’s Scholastic Arts and Writing competition for the Southern US region. The Silver Key designation marks stand-out works that demonstrate exceptional ability, and Honorable Mention designation marks accomplished works showing great skill and potential. CelebratingArt.com is devoted to the promotion and appreciation of student art. The top entries are published in an anthology that will record the creative works of today’s student artists. Excellent pieces that are given High Merit are recognized.

This year senior members of the Color Guard competed in the MPAA State Championship Solo and Ensemble Competition.

Gabrielle Davis and Hannah Solomon were awarded 1st place earning the gold medal at the 2026 MPAA State Championship in Scholastic AA Solo & Ensemble.
