St. Mary’s Dominican High School students shined at Louisiana Music Educators Association (LMEA) District Senior High Honor Band and District Senior High Honor Choir. Brenda Castillo, Fine Arts Department Chair at Dominican, is director of Dominican’s band and choir.
Dominican student Isabelle Tsien performed in the Colonel John R. Bourgeois High School Honor Band. The ensemble was led by clinician Colonel John R. Bourgeois, former band director of the United States “President’s Own” Marine Band. Throughout his distinguished career, he served under seven presidents as both a French hornist and conductor. This event was hosted at Loyola University New Orleans.
Isabelle Tsien and June Diket performed with the LMEA District VI Senior High Honor Band. Isabelle Tsien represented Dominican on the string bass and June Diket on clarinet. The students had the incredible opportunity to work with Dr. Kelvin Jones, LMEA District Senior High Honor Band Clinician and the former Director of Louisiana State University Golden Band from Tigerland. This event was hosted at Tulane University.
Monica Bertuccci and Sophia Perez performed in the LMEA District VI Senior High Honor Choir, under the direction of guest clinician Dr. Alissa Rowe, Director of Choral Studies at Louisiana State University. Sophia Perez was featured with her original poem set to the song, Ngothando, by Mbuso Ndivou. This event was hosted at Divine Mercy Church.
