St. Mary’s Dominican High School senior Sydney Mason has been offered $1 million in scholarships from: Howard University, Clark Atlanta University, Tuskegee University, Seton Hall University, Loyola University New Orleans, Mississippi State University, Louisiana State University, Hampton University, Providence College, Alabama State University, Long Island University, Seton Hall University, and American University. She is the daughter of Carla Bringier-Mason and Judge Omar Mason of New Orleans.
An Alpha Honor Roll student with a 4.0 Grade Point Average, she is a member of Mu Alpha Theta (2024-2026), Campus Ministry Club (2024-2026), National Honor Society (2024-2026), National English Honor Society (2024-2026), and Cultural Diversity Club (2023-2026) where she served as the treasurer for the 2024-2025 school year and assisted in planning cultural awareness events and the management of the club’s fund. As a member of Student Ambassadors (2022–2026), she represented Dominican at the school’s Open Houses and recruitment events.
During her spring internship (March-April 2025) at New Orleans Recreational Department’s (NORD) Rosenwald Recreation Center she served meals at the Kids Club, organized meal distributions, worked concessions at basketball tournaments, and assisted with guest check-ins. She also was a volunteer on the NORD Teen Council (2021-2026) and visited homes and served food at the annual Special Needs Ball. A member of the Knights of Peter Claver Junior Daughters (2016-2026), she was treasurer and assisted in organizing community service projects and teen-led events. She also volunteered at PetSmart Adoption events, assisting with animal care and promoting pet adoption awareness.
