Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards Recognize Dominican Students

St. Mary’s Dominican High School students were recognized at the regional level for the 2020 Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards for the Southwest Art Region-At-Large. Students who received Gold Key awards will continue to the national competition. The Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, whose mission is to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards. Through the awards, students receive opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships.

A closing reception of all Gold Key work will be on March 20th at New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, with an awards ceremony on March 22nd at the University of New Orleans.

For the first time, a Dominican student was nominated for American Voices and Visions. Five works of writing and five works of art from each region are selected by local judges as American Voices & Visions nominees, who are then celebrated in local exhibitions and ceremonies. From the pool of nominees, a panel of jurors in New York City selects one writer and one artist from each region to receive an American Voices Medal or an American Visions Medal, a non-financial highest regional honor. These Medalists are celebrated during National Events and at the National Exhibition in New York City.
