Dominican Juniors Presented Book Awards

Nine St. Mary’s Dominican High School juniors were presented Book Awards from universities and colleges to celebrate the achievements of the Junior Class. The Book Awards are in recognition of academic excellence, strong character, and commitment to community service. School counselors and teachers nominate the students they feel best embody the criteria set by each college or university.

Bakhit Cuccia – Rachel Carson Healthy Planet Award – Chatham University, awarded to a student who is dedicated to sustainability and community development. She is a leader in her school community and excels academically.

Jenna ThomasTulane Book Award, awarded to a student that embodies Tulane’s motto, “Not for one’s self, but for one’s own.” They have demonstrated excellence in academics, leadership, and public service in their communities.

Jane BostickRensselaer Medal Award, designed to recognize a student’s strength and success in the fields of mathematics and science throughout her high school career. With this award, the student has an opportunity to receive a scholarship of $30,000/year from Rensselaer if she applies and is admitted.

Jasmine FerrierDartmouth Club of the Gulf Coast Award, awarded to a student that excels academically, demonstrates strong character, and has made a positive impact on her school community.

Alexandra AmatoBates College Book Award, awarded to a student who embodies the Bates College motto – Amore ac Studio – with ardor and devotion. This student is an outstanding leader and has high academic achievements, along with showing a commitment to their community through active citizenship, community service, or social responsibility.

Samantha WhiteBrandeis University, awarded to a student who demonstrates commitment to civic engagement, community service, political activism, social justice, or volunteer work.

Annie CarrRochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Computing Medal and Scholarship Program, awarded to an active member of the school community that demonstrates interest in computing.

Mia DiGiovanniRochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Innovation and Creativity Award, awarded to a student who is active in her school community and demonstrates outstanding achievement in innovation and creativity.

Ada HolmesLasell University Book Award, awarded to a student that embodies the Lasell University motto, “Repulsae Nescia,” meaning Ignorant of Defeat. This student actively participates in their school community and excels academically. She will also have the opportunity to receive a $1,000 scholarship/year upon acceptance into Lasell.

Maeve StormWilliams College Book Award, awarded to a student that demonstrates intellectual leadership and made a significant contribution to the extracurricular life of her school.
