St. Mary’s Dominican High School delivered the Christmas spirit adopting 131 individuals and making 28 Family Bags for families through Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans for the school’s annual Adopt-A-Family drive. Family Bags of backpacks or suitcases were filled with essential items that included dish soap, first aid kits, and shampoo. Receiving gifts were individuals and families from St. Rita Catholic Church, Metro Centers for Community Advocacy, and two programs of Catholic Charities – Cornerstone Builders and Refugee Services.
Each religion class was assigned a number of individuals to adopt based on the number of students in their class and grade level. Gifts were provided by students in their religion classes and through donations from school personnel. Campus Ministry Club officers organized the gifts. Dads Club members and a Dominican mom volunteered to load vehicles with gifts for delivery to Catholic Charities.
