Ryan Reuter’s Psychology Honors class conducted a “Blind Sensory Walk” as part of their unit on Sensation & Perception. After an initial sensory walk, where students observed their surroundings using all senses, this lab took away their sight by blindfolding them. The goal was to explore how losing one sense heightens awareness of others and to encourage trust in their leaders. During the walk, students also discussed “signal detection theory,” focusing on their ability to block out distractions and concentrate on their partner’s instructions. The exercise concluded with a classroom debrief.
