St. Mary’s Dominican High School wrapped up the Christmas spirit and delivered it to 173 individuals as part of Dominican’s annual Adopt-a-Family program. They adopted the 109 residents at the Audubon Retirement Village, 38 from Metro Center for Community Advocacy, 14 from Catholic Charities, and 12 from the community and Dominican’s neighbors.
Each religion class was assigned a number of individuals to adopt based on the number of students in their class and grade level. Gifts were provided by students in their religion classes and through donations from school personnel. Campus Ministry Club officers organized the gifts.
“The Adopt-a-Family program at DHS is one of my favorite service projects that gives back to our community in a significant way. This year, with the addition of adopting the residents at the Audubon Retirement Village, some staff members and a handful of students had the opportunity to physically deliver gifts to residents and watch their faces light up with excitement as they unwrapped new blankets, socks, games, and more. This service opportunity truly allowed us to experience the joy that we await at Christmas!” -Rebecca Wallace, Campus Minister
