Dominican Collects 993 Pairs of Socks for Happy Feet Drive

Standing next to St. Mary’s Dominican High School’s collection of 993 pairs of socks for the Happy Feet drive are (from left) Eighth Grade Student Council Vice Representative Lourdes Maristany who spearheaded the drive at Dominican; Student Council officers Elise Grefer (President), Olivia Labruzzo (Secretary), and Isabelle Tran (Vice President). More than 6,700 pairs of new or gently worn socks collected from twelve area schools were donated to Ozanam Inn.

Recognizing the need for socks for the homeless on cold winter nights, Ursuline Academy alumna (’17), Tulane graduate, and Yale student Ingeborg Hyde started Happy Feet during her 8th-grade year at Ursuline. She reached out to students at other schools in the New Orleans Metro Area to spearhead the effort at their own schools.
